Check out Comic Lab! I’ve been listening to their AMAZING podcast for months now - trying to soak in everything Dave Kellett and Brad Guigar are putting out there! They’ve been creating comics for decades - and with the podcast, it’s like they’re giving away all their hard won knowledge and beautiful wisdom for free! .. I do feel like I’m going back to school all over again. So much to learn… 😅

…or, Vern Looks Up “Incognizant”. These first strips took ages. I decided to switch my graphics program of choice from Procreate to Clip Studio Paint. What a learning curve! … and still so much more to figure out. I made so many decisions and tweaks (format, layout, fonts, word balloons, etc.) - in the hope that with those out of the way, I can now focus on drawing fun characters and telling some jokes. (…of course, I’ll find a way to sabotage THAT plan).

Ever notice how time can both stand still and slip away almost simultaneously? One of my goals this year is to find an ability to focus on my work (and not lose myself in my phone).

It is with all humbleness and little fanfare that I release into the world my first comic strip. This little cartoon universe will be my place to play and learn. As time goes on (and I get A LOT MORE practice), I hope to sharpen my humor, polish my visual storytelling and maybe create a few new friends along the way.
